How to Make the Most of ACHT’s Job Placement Assistance
Job placement assistance is offered to each graduate of the American College of Healthcare and Technology. Our career services staff has the skills and experience to help you find employment and start on the path to a successful career.
While we can’t guarantee every student will find a job immediately, we have extensive knowledge of healthcare providers in the area, we participate in health fairs, and we know what it takes for graduates to get hired.
So, how can you make the most of our job placement assistance, and have a greater chance at landing a career in the healthcare industry?
Take Your Externship Seriously
The American College of Healthcare and Technology offers externship opportunities to our healthcare program students. This gives you the chance to gain hands-on experience in a real healthcare setting. The classroom is a great place to start, but nothing beats learning in a facility where you could eventually find work.
That idea is important to keep in mind: Treat your externship as you would any job. Be professional, be on time, and dress appropriately. If externship sites are hiring, you might be considered after graduation. Even if they’re not, it’s always a good idea to make a good impression. You will take the skills you learn from externship with you once you find that first job.
Utilize the Career Services Department
When you’re in the midst of classes, an externship, and balancing the rest of your life, it can be hard to find time to put together a resume. If you’ve never had to create one before, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.
Thankfully, you don’t have to do it alone. A great resume can get you noticed quickly by potential employers, so use the experts in our Career Services Department to help you. With their guidance, you can put together a resume that will really stand out and show off your education and expertise.
Apply for Jobs Online
Applying for jobs online is the quickest and easiest way to find employment. There are plenty of quality job boards to search from, but if you’re having trouble finding the best ones, our Career Services Department can help.
Many job boards now allow you to receive “alerts” when a job you’re interested in comes up. That way, you’ll never miss an opportunity to apply!
Take the First Job You Get
A good rule of thumb is to accept the first job offer you get after graduation. It’s unlikely that you’ll find your dream job immediately, but think about your short-term goals, instead.
Many healthcare facilities want to hire people with experience in the industry. While graduating from the American College of Healthcare and Technology and completing an externship gives you some experience, many employers want to hire employees with some experience in the field. So, take whatever job offer you can get, at first.
Once you do, you can start to gain real-world, on-the-job experience. You’ll also be able to form relationships and useful connections. After spending a year or two in an entry-level position, you can start looking at other jobs, or think about moving up in your current place of employment. Don’t get hung up on being too picky! The right job will eventually come along.
